What We Do
The Casemate Group was established in 2001, when David Farnsworth, created a new distribution company Casemate Publishers and Book Distributors LLC, to distribute books in North America for leading specialist publishers. The company set up its own military history publishing imprint, Casemate Publishers in 2002 and currently publishes 70-80 books a year.
In July 2007, the company supported a management buyout of the UK based Greenhill Books’ sales and distribution operation, to start its own UK operation, Casemate UK. Casemate UK assumed from Greenhill Books responsibility for the sales, marketing, and distribution of a number of leading history and art book publishers in that market. Casemate UK has been growing ever since.
In 2011, Casemate Digital was founded to provide digital distribution to its client publishers, making Casemate one of the first distributors to offer a global combined print and digital distribution service, working with publishers to develop their digital strategy, enabling their content to be available in all formats and growing its e-retailer account list to become one of the largest in the industry.
At the end of 2011, the UK side of the company bought leading academic book publisher and distributor, Oxbow Books, together with its US operation, The David Brown Book Company (DBBC), from company founder, David Brown. In 2013, DBBC was rebranded Casemate Academic and was fully acquired by and integrated into Casemate’s north American operation. Casemate Academic, together with UK sister company, Oxbow Books, provides sales, marketing, and distribution services for highly respected academic and scholarly book publishers, societies and institutes worldwide. Oxbow Books is also the world’s leading archaeology publisher, publishing 70–80 titles a year.
In 2015, Casemate acquired International Publisher’s Marketing (IPM), from Books International and merged its existing Casemate Athena brand into a new division, Casemate IPM. Casemate IPM is Casemate’s general trade distribution arm in the US.
In 2019 Casemate acquired the distribution business of US based Dufour Editions and thus at a stroke became the largest distributor of books for Scottish, Irish and Welsh publishers in the United States
Together these divisions of the company comprise The Casemate Group, which has grown to become the preferred distribution partner for publishers around the world. Selective about our client publishers, we are renowned for our personal and professional service, with many of our clients having been with us for over 20 years.
