BOYDELL & BREWER SIGN WITH THE CASEMATE GROUP FOR US DISTRIBUTION

Casemate Group and Boydell & Brewer Ltd have come to a sales and distribution agreement for print books in North and South America. The new business deal was in the planning stages for some time as both companies prepared for a smooth transition. Effective September 1, 2018, the new agreement covers all titles and imprints in B&B’s publishing program. Specifically, Casemate will provide sales, warehousing, and distribution facilities for Boydell & Brewer and will be their exclusive distributor in North and South America.

Boydell & Brewer Ltd was formed in 1978. Like many modern publishing houses, it was created by the merger of two smaller publishing companies, Boydell Press and D.S. Brewer, and has since acquired or started additional imprints. Seeking to establish a greater presence in the US market, Boydell & Brewer entered into a partnership agreement with the University of Rochester to found the University of Rochester Press in 1989, which now publishes up to 30 books a year. Alongside publications in the fields of African studies, philosophy, and social and medical history, URP is also home to the prestigious Eastman Studies in Music series. In 1998 the US program was extended further with Boydell & Brewer’s acquisition of Camden House, a scholarly publisher of books on German and American literature and culture.

With their imprints and affiliates, Boydell & Brewer publishes approximately 220 titles annually. The backlist contains around 5,500 titles. Under the new arrangement, Boydell & Brewer relocates its stock from PSSC (Publishers Storage and Shipping) to BI (Books International).

To bolster the sales representation through the southern hemisphere, the Casemate Group has also just signed a new arrangement with VT-based, Latin American sales agency, Cranbury International.
